A Cronulla hotspot that keeps it simple, generous and friendly.
“Get the service right and you’re half way there.” says 2230 licensee, Scott Matteson. And service is exactly what sets this bar and restaurant aside. The staff are welcoming, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, it’s never hard to catch someone’s eye and the emphasis is on friendly, fun and fast service.
Located directly opposite Cronulla railway station, 2230 Restaurant and Bar is within walking distance of everything the beachside suburb has to offer, making it an ideal place to start or finish a night out. However, once seated you may find it hard to leave – the atmosphere is bright and there’s live music that’s super smooth and not too obtrusive. There’s a choice of outdoor and indoor seating, and when bathed in the afternoon sun, it’s the perfect place to sit back, relax with friends and watch the sky turn to fire as the sun sets on another day.
The menu is simple and well set out, offering a selection of tapas – bite size share plates with a real Australian emphasis. You can’t help but be drawn to the extensive cocktail menu. Classics like the Mojito and Caprioska are on offer but you have to try the ridiculously tasty Summer Scuttlebutt – it’s paradoxically strong and delicate. A real Goldilocks cocktail, it’s not too heavy, not too light, it’s just right.
The Ginja Ninja is another tasty blend and the Espresso Martini is to die for. Made with coffee vodka and cold-dripped over 12 hours, it’s packed full of caffeine and tastes amazing – a real hit for true coffee lovers everywhere. Nothing is off limits though, and the fully trained bartenders can whip up what ever your heart desires, or suggest something to tantalise the taste buds.
If cocktails don’t appeal, there’s also a huge selection of beer and some great wines – all reasonably priced. You can try the summer jugs – red, white and rosé Sangria – the classic Pimms or something exclusive with a twist, like the Me Gusta, which is an exotic splash with tequila, ginger liqueur and peach iced tea amongst the ingredients.
The food is tasty and generous. The tapas share platter at $50 for two could easily feed more and you can order by the plate if you’re stopping in before or after dinner elsewhere. The Southwest Penny Burgers are light and tasty, the Sticky Icky Chicken Wings burst with flavour and the Chilli Con Carne Tartlets will satisfy any chilli cravings with a hit of Mexican hotness.
As the night goes on, friends gather and the dance floor starts to fill. Cocktails are flowing and there’s an enchanting sense of merriment. 2230 Restaurant and Bar keeps it simple, generous and friendly with a focus on good beer and great cocktails. You leave with new friends, a full stomach and a feeling that you’ll be back again – real soon.
